John Payne, Founder & President

John graduated from the University of Dayton with a B.S. in Accounting. He has worked for over a decade as a public accountant and as a financial analyst within various industries. In high school, John encouraged (forced) his parents to recycle and even built them a composter for their food scraps and yard waste, habits they continue to this day. Unfortunately, his environmental interests were sidetracked while in college, largely due to his self-imposed fear of needing to get a “real” job. Never quite fulfilled by his “real” job, John finally decided that what he really needed was a meaningful job. In his search for meaning, he quickly rediscovered his environmental passion and decided to head back down that road. John spent a lot of time figuring out how he might best be ..more on John Payne

Lori Beerman, Vice President

Lori graduated from Miami University (Ohio) with a B.S. in Finance and Marketing. She worked briefly as a financial analyst but quickly realized that this career path was not for her. She completed her Astrophysics undergraduate education at the University of Cincinnati and is now working on her PhD in Astronomy at the University of Washington. Her main interest is in galaxy formation and evolution. However, Lori’s head is not always in the clouds. She realizes the importance of preserving and protecting this beautiful blue planet that we call Earth. Elizabeth Herr, Secretary

Elizabeth is a graduate from the University of Dayton and has been passionate about the environment her entire life. She comes from a family that thinks green and has a history of getting involved with the community. Her parents feel that their generation should be doing more to help with environmental matters, being that they have the free time now to get involved. To their credit they’ve done just that by starting two local environmental groups. Elizabeth believes that education is the key to getting ourselves out of the environmental predicaments we've put ourselves in and wants to help a part of the solution. Elizabeth has a green thumb and loves to spend time in the garden. She also absolutely LOVES poetry! Words inspire her and she hopes to inspire others and increase the ..more on Elizabeth Herr

Mark Lewis, Board of Directors

Mark is a graduate from the University of Dayton with a M.S. in Education. He is a Biology teacher at Miamisburg H.S. and the school’s Earth Club Advisor. Mark understands how important education is to society in general, but specifically he sees how important environmental education is to our planet. Mark points to a quote by Mahatma Ghandi that says, “The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problems”. He believes that we are capable of so much more, but that a lack of environmental education has led to several bad habits and apathy. He feels that by focusing our efforts on educating the next generation, we should be able to help correct many of the problems that we see today.

Jessica Whitesell, Board of Directors

Jessie is a graduate of Kent State University with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a M.A. in School Counseling. She was raised in a home that nurtured the ways of living green and was taught by example through her grandfather and mother's eco-conscious lifestyle. Gardening, composting, reusing, bicycling, simplifying, reading (Robert Frost, Walt Whitman, John Muir, Rachel Carson) were all a part of growing up for Jessie. As a child, she didn't know these behaviors would later be labeled "eco-savy", to her it was just the norm. These practices taught Jessie at a young age to respect our planet, and she is grateful for that. After teaching Earth Science for five years, as well as other core subjects at the middle school level, she is now raising her own three children (ages five a ..more on Jessica Whitesell

Carol is currently attending the University of Cincinnati as a returning student and will graduate in 2010 with a B.S. in Physics. She has been interested in the protecting the environment, conserving resources and energy systems since the 1970’s. Her teachers in high school and college (the first time!) encouraged her to pursue her dream of working in physics to make a difference in the world. Carol now has the opportunity to complete her B.S. and Ph.D. and work to develop new energy sources, so that our natural resources may be left alone and the environment restored. She also grows many of her own organic vegetables, buys local products and recycles everything possible. Carol enjoys communing with nature, so realizes the importance of educating people at an early age about conserv ..more on Carol Fabby
